February 2, 2011 marks the 40th anniversary of the Ramsar Convention, the most important international treaty on wetland conservation. The Spanish Wetlands Centre (CEHUM) commemorates World Wetlands Day with training and informative activities.

Through the activities, which will take place in the Aula Natura, these ecosystems, and especially La Marjal de Gandía, will be valued. Thus, trees will be planted with groups of schoolchildren and garbage collection work will be carried out in the Ullals.

As part of the celebratory events, on February 3 the documentary “Spanish Wetlands” will be presented in the Paraninfo of the Polytechnic University of Valencia. Afterwards, there will be a colloquium talk that will feature the intervention of Batiste Miguel, director of the work.

On the 4th, the scientific bird ringing campaign will be held in the Marjales de la Safor. As a closing of the events, on Saturday 5 will take place the painting contest for schoolchildren, under the theme “The Ullals of the Marjal de Gandía”.
