The project was born with the aim of knowing the migratory population in the area of the Strait of Gibraltar, between Europe and Africa, of the Egyptian vulture species (Neophron percnopterus).

In this way, it will be possible to evaluate their population trend (increase or decrease), comparing the results with similar studies carried out by the association previously.

The specific objectives are:

  • Count the Egyptian vulture population during the summer/autumn of 2011.
  • To learn about the conservation problems of this species on its main migratory route (Strait of Gibraltar).
  • Make the data public for scientific exploitation from the association’s Internet database (http://basededatos.cocn.eu).

To this end, a series of activities will be developed:

  1. Preparation of informative and training material for the participating volunteers.
  2. Dissemination of the project and recruitment of volunteers.
  3. Fieldwork, from July 15 to October 15.
  4. Daily upload to the database of the field information obtained.
  5. Analysis of the data obtained and dissemination of the same.
