Forest Biodiversity and Consumers: Answers for the Present

MITECO

The purpose is to project at a social level and, more specifically, in the school environment the aspects that favour the compatibility of forests and their biodiversity with the habits and customs of citizens.

The purpose is to project at a social level and, more specifically, in the school environment the aspects that favour the compatibility of forests and their biodiversity with the habits and customs of citizens.

In this line, the initiative will seek answers to the conflicts that present difficulties and contradictions between human development and the preservation of forests and their biological wealth.

A programme will be developed for schools, involving teachers and students from 100 schools in a plan aimed at visualising and highlighting the importance of forests and biodiversity for human beings.

The specific objectives are:

  • To project, through the realization of a school program, the celebration in Spain of the International Year of Forests and its social impact.
  • Involve the largest number of schools in the implementation of direct action programming in the schools and classrooms themselves.
  • To achieve the largest number of students involved in the development of the activities.
  • To know the degree of involvement of schools in relation to environmental protection and responsible consumption.
  • To investigate the students’ perception of forests in relation to their lifestyle and consumption habits.
  • To project to society the level of perception of schools, their teachers and students about their relationship with forests and their biodiversity.
  • Raise awareness in society about biodiversity, forest areas and responsible consumption.
