The II National Congress on Biodiversity was held in Blanes, Girona, from 10 to 13 February 2009, and reflected on the current state of biodiversity in Spain and the social and economic causes that influence its situation, with the aim of providing the appropriate means for its preservation.

The Congress was aimed at scientists dedicated to research on conservation issues, jurists and economists, as well as professionals from Public Administrations and the private sector who wish to deepen their knowledge of the strategic dimension of biodiversity conservation and knowledge of scientific advances and strategies aimed at preserving their role in the general framework of sustainable development.
Scientists (natural, social, economic and humanistic sciences) and experts participated in the programme and discussed the current challenges of conservation and sustainable use of resources and biodiversity.
