The Jerez Zoo Botanical has carried out this activity from 5 to 9 November 2009 in Jerez de la Frontera, Cádiz.

The First Iberian Congress on the Reintroduction of Wild Species has been dedicated to the presentation of works related to the biology and ecology of the reintroduction of wild species into nature, aiming to be a place for debate on the benefits and weaknesses of these programs.

The aim of the congress was to raise awareness of the reintroduction policy carried out by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), as well as to show the main programmes developed in Spain and Portugal. It also sought to present the legal aspects and policies used to implement reintroductions, population reinforcements and translocations, as well as to analyse the ecological, economic and legal repercussions.

Specifically, it has been intended to:

  • Publicize the reintroduction projects carried out for the date of the event.
  • Disseminate the international regulations of application.
  • To analyse the potential ecological, economic and legal impacts of reintroductions.
  • To study the importance of veterinary aspects and the problems of population reinforcement and translocations.
