The aim of the project is to contribute to the improvement of the Cantabrian capercaillie through pioneering habitat management experiences in Spain, and environmental education and social awareness campaigns.
The aim of the project is to contribute to the improvement of the Cantabrian capercaillie through pioneering habitat management experiences in Spain, and environmental education and social awareness campaigns.
More specifically, it is intended to:
- To evaluate the type of habitat actions that are most beneficial for the Cantabrian capercaillie, applying forest management models successfully carried out in other parts of Spain.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of this management, using established protocols and controlling a series of environmental variables related to the conservation of the species.
- Encourage public participation in capercaillie conservation.
- Promote environmental education about the species and its habitat with schoolchildren from the area of socioeconomic influence of the Picos de Europa National Park.
- Promote agreements at the local level with local groups that are beneficial to the species.
- To raise awareness among the general public of the conservation problems affecting the Cantabrian capercaillie.
