This project aims to improve the results of the recovery programs of nocturnal raptors by applying innovative techniques and achieving a greater social projection of this activity.

The two main objectives are:
  • To achieve greater efficiency in the quality of raptor rehabilitation, adopting a multidisciplinary and innovative approach.
  • To achieve a greater social scope of rehabilitation tasks.

To this end, work will be done with seven species of nocturnal birds of prey, as well as two species of nightjars and two species of harriers (Montagu’s and pale). The knowledge of other disciplines, with which the entity has already begun to work, and which are giving very good results, will be used.

Behavioral ecology, behavioral psychology learning theories, and ethology provide models that can be adapted to the needs of birds during their retrieval. Currently, information regarding the behavioral needs of raptors or their effects once released is scarce, but it is prevailing in the most prominent conservation programs.

On the other hand, some therapies, such as acupuncture, are beginning to be used very effectively. Regular physiotherapy (mobilizations) and many of its tools (laser therapy, ultrasound) are also proving to be a powerful tool in clinical treatment. The initiative will echo these trends, as well as paying greater attention to nutritional needs and the possibilities for animals to exercise in a different way than usual, in quadrangular aviaries.

Finally, the aim is to provide greater social projection to the rehabilitation tasks of these animals, encouraging the personal or virtual participation of society in them.
