Gathering all the necessary information on the populations of the bottlenose dolphin (Tursiops truncatus) in the Canary archipelago is the main objective of this project.

In order to draw up the Use and Management Plans for the marine Special Areas of Conservation (SACs) of the Macaronesian Region of the Natura 2000 Network in Spain, whose declaration objective includes the bottlenose dolphin (Tursiops truncatus), it is necessary to provide and gather all the necessary information about this cetacean.

The objectives of the project are:

  • To determine the state of knowledge of the populations of the species in the Canary Islands.
  • Assess the threats that may affect the maintenance of a favourable conservation status.
  • Define the conservation objectives of the species for each of the SACs.
