This area is home to unique species in the Iberian Peninsula, many of which are threatened and require protection. The aim of the project is to collect information on the seabed of the Gulf of Cadiz to identify areas that require protection and create a new area that extends the number of hectares protected off Doñana and its nearby waters.

Oceana has found threatened corals in the waters of the Gulf of Cadiz and a rich ecosystem with an abundance of gorgonians, sponges, sea squirts and molluscs, as well as other species that until now had not been found in Spanish waters.

The actions to be carried out in this project are the following:

  1. Study organization, strategy, methodology, etc.
  2. Campaign to collect images using an underwater robot (ROV) and divers.
  3. Preparation of a report of results and dissemination.
