This initiative aims to be a starting point for the development of a sustainable development strategy for the Sierra del Rosario Biosphere Reserve, for which the community of Las Terrazas, one of the eight that make it up and in which the project will be developed, has been chosen as a model.
Firstly, a sustainable management model will be developed and an Urban Solid Waste (MSW) Management strategy will be designed. In addition, the technical and operational capacity of the institutions in relation to sustainable management models will be strengthened. The social commitment of the inhabitants of the area to conservation and sustainable development will also be reinforced, through training and awareness days.
The project encompasses a series of specific actions, including the creation of a technical sustainability committee in the Biosphere Reserve. Work days will be organised to define action plans and sustainable tools in the Biosphere Reserve Management Unit.
With regard to the community of Las Terrazas, alternatives to manage urban solid waste will be analysed and then a guide on Good Sustainable Practices and Food Safety and MSW Management will be prepared.
