Studies and tests to contain erosion in the dunes of the beaches of La Llana and Barraca Quemada

MITECO

The main objective of the project is to conserve and maintain the dune systems, beaches and traditional salt salt systems in the Regional Park of Salinas y Arenales de San Pedro del Pinatar, in the Region of Murcia.

The main objective of the project is to conserve and maintain the dune systems, beaches and traditional salt salt systems in the Regional Park of Salinas y Arenales de San Pedro del Pinatar, in the Region of Murcia.

More specifically, it is intended to:

  • Determine the causes of erosion on beaches through a geodynamic model, defining and locating the volumes of sand lost and predicting the evolution of beaches and dunes.
  • To assess the current erosion on the beaches, as well as to design and test erosion containment or elimination systems, in collaboration with the General Directorate of Coasts.

The specific actions planned are the following:

  • Compilation of graphic, cartographic, studies, theses, bathymetric data, etc. on the area under study.
  • Quantification of lost sand masses through cartographic and field work.
  • Location of the lost sand masses, by comparing bathymetries in the area, and soundings to know the stratigraphic column of the sands and sediments.
  • Measurement of current beach erosion by means of sediment capture systems, markings, etc.
  • Testing of different methods of erosion containment, all of them mobile.
