The project aims to improve the environment of strategic points of the Almenara Marsh to achieve the objectives of the Water Framework Directive in 2015. The Marjal is SCI and is located between the region of Plana Baixa (Castelló) and Camp de Morvedre (Valencia), guarded by Acció Ecologista Agró.

The project aims to improve the environment of strategic points of the Almenara Marsh to achieve the objectives of the Water Framework Directive in 2015. The Marjal is SCI and is located between the region of Plana Baixa (Castelló) and Camp de Morvedre (Valencia), guarded by Acció Ecologista Agró.

More specifically, it pursues:

• Recreate the right conditions to establish a wildlife reserve in the Ullal de Quartons and adjacent marshes.
• Improve water quality in the Estany Sur.
• Citizen participation and dissemination of objectives.
• To promote the work of eliminating the Florida tortoise in “els Estanys d’Almenara”.

The actions that are planned to be carried out within the framework of this project are:

• On the Ullal de Quartons land, earthmoving works, cleaning of the perimeter ditch, replacement of channeling, construction of a perimeter fence, planting of riverside species, mowing in spring and installation of regulation gates will be carried out.
• In the Estany Sur, the cleaning of the ditch, the expansion of the perimeter channel and the placement of a bridge will be carried out.
• A painting contest will be organized aimed at the schools located in the LIC.
• Popular plantations will be carried out.
• The translocation of bivalves from endangered areas will be carried out with volunteers.
• Informative material such as information panels, CDs and brochures on the protected area will be published.
• In the Estanys d’Almenara an entrance-trap will be created to the orchard adjacent to the Estanys and the surroundings of the trap will be restored.
