The initiative seeks to improve biodiversity and water quality by restoring wetlands in a landscape homogenized by intensive agricultural uses.

This project is complementary to LIFE+ (09ENV/ES/000431, 2011-2014). Actions will be undertaken to revegetate and improve the morphology of wetlands and riparian areas in which the actions of the LIFE+ project have fallen short due to budget shortage, so that planting density will be increased, ensuring the biodiversity of the wetlands from the beginning of the works and in accordance with the morphology of the relief of the bottom and the height of the water column of each wetland.

The Region of Los Monegros undertakes to carry out the monitoring of these actions during the life of the project, and subsequently, to verify the success of the revegetation and the replacement of the trees if necessary. In addition, throughout the project a programme of dissemination, participation and awareness of the local population will be carried out through organised visits by schoolchildren, animation and participation workshops, and the creation of a website.
