The wild rabbit is the main food of numerous species of Mediterranean fauna. Some of them, such as the Iberian lynx, are in danger of survival due, among other causes, to the scarcity of rabbits in their habitat.
The collaboration agreement with Fedenca, INIA and Syva Laboratories has as its ultimate goal the restoration of the ecological balance of the Mediterranean area. The result of this collaboration will be the obtaining of the recombinant Mixoma-VP60 vaccine, capable of protecting rabbits from the two predominant diseases, whose use is conditioned by the mandatory authorisation of the European Agency for the Evaluation of Medicinal Products (EMEA). To do this, it is necessary to comply with the regulations of this body in the manufacture of the vaccine and its experimentation through laboratory and field tests, in order to meet all the requirements.
