The general objective of the Land Stewardship Platform is to promote the development of land stewardship as a tool for the conservation of natural, cultural and landscape resources throughout the Spanish State.

The general objective of the Land Stewardship Platform is to promote the development of land stewardship as a tool for the conservation of natural, cultural and landscape resources throughout the Spanish State.

The Platform seeks to become a meeting place for all the networks and custody entities that carry out their activity in the Spanish State, providing them with support and encouraging them to continue working in this line. To this end, the Platform assumes participation as an essential feature for its successful achievement, for which it is counting on the collaboration of the actors of the stewardship movement, as well as other agents involved in the conservation and management of the territory.

After two years of work, at this stage, we will continue to bet on a greater technical development of the Platform and to continue supporting the growth of the land stewardship collective in our country. To this end, it is proposed:

• Continue to make progress to contribute to the enhancement of stewardship as a viable management tool for the conservation of resources. To this end, work will continue so that the concept of custody and its work methodologies are known and recognized among the different sectors of society.
• To promote the creation of meeting spaces for stewardship networks and entities that serve for the exchange of knowledge and experiences, thus contributing to the promotion and consolidation of land stewardship.
• To promote cooperation between the different networks and custodian entities, especially in the field of information. At the same time, to promote cooperation between these networks and entities and the Biodiversity Foundation so that the actions of the Platform are aimed at responding to the needs of the land stewardship group itself.
• To prepare and disseminate reference documents and to offer updated information on custody at the national and international level.
• To consolidate the role of the Platform and the Biodiversity Foundation as a relevant actor in land stewardship and to disseminate this initiative, promoting its presence in different forums and events of interest to land stewardship. In particular, to continue the line of work on land stewardship and private protected areas at the international level.
• To the extent of the project’s possibilities, generate resources and tools that, based on their needs, contribute to the growth of the land stewardship movement itself.

The main actions of the Land Stewardship Platform planned for 2009 are:

• Updating and maintenance of the Land Stewardship Platform website.
• Improvements in the Inventory of Land Stewardship Initiatives of the Spanish State. This year a new data collection campaign will be carried out to update the inventory in its entirety.
• To develop activities related to the advisory council of the Land Stewardship Platform, a communication and consultation body between the land stewardship movement and the Biodiversity Foundation itself.
• Preparation of a legal study on land stewardship.
• Informative and training actions on land stewardship and its use as a tool for the conservation of natural heritage and biodiversity (documents, news insertions and reports in the media, workshops, among others).
• Preparation of a survey of land stewardship entities in order to expand the knowledge about them and deepen the characteristics and activities of the entities in order to guide the reinforcement actions that the Land Stewardship Platform may propose in the future for these organizations.
