The philosophy of land stewardship aims to recover private and voluntary initiative in the conservation of environmental values. In this context, this project aims to promote agricultural management systems that can bring the objectives of economic viability (fundamental for the survival of the agricultural sector) closer to the preservation of the most outstanding environmental values (fundamental both for Menorcan society and for the agricultural sector itself to be able to continue operating in the future).
Based on voluntary collaboration agreements, the project contemplates various lines of action to achieve social complicity in the implementation of custody. Support volunteering, the promotion of derived products, training, education and coordination with other experiences, aim to give a solid body to the promotion of a certain reorientation of the agricultural sector, given that it is responsible for the management of more than 70% of the territory of the island, declared a Biosphere Reserve. As these are voluntary agreements, a special effort of dialogue is necessary which, due to the characteristics of the agricultural sector, needs sufficient time to bear fruit. Given this condition, the project has been proposed for a duration of two years.
