The project aims to strengthen Mesoamerican Biosphere Reserves to achieve an adequate conservation of their biodiversity and the human development of those who inhabit them, through the strengthening of local organization, the involvement of communities and the reduction of poverty.

To achieve these objectives, the project proposed the development of a regional strategy for the strengthening of Biosphere Reserves, which included the improvement of the capacities of local management committees or the creation of these where they do not exist. In training workshops in each of the countries, management and planning issues aimed at achieving the conservation objectives established for this type of space were discussed.

In the same way, the establishment of a regional network and a virtual platform to support continuous exchange was proposed. In addition, dissemination and education campaigns among the local population were added.
