MITECO

The project seeks to value the natural and cultural heritage as a factor in the development of the Galician rural environment.

The project seeks to value the natural and cultural heritage as a factor in the development of the Galician rural environment.

It is aimed in particular at workers in the agricultural, forestry and fisheries sectors in less-favoured areas. It also includes workers in tourism, the agri-food industry, commerce, construction and services.

Its main objective is to improve the environmental quality of disadvantaged areas and the Galician Natura Network, through the creation of sustainable communities integrated into the conservation of biodiversity. The new technologies and the design of new forms of social organization offered by the economy make it possible to integrate efficient management with the protection of natural resources.

To this end, a set of tools will be created that will allow:

  • To exploit the competitive potential of less-favoured areas and their business activities. Special attention will be paid to territorial value chains.
  • Promote traditional farms, promoting conservation and organic agriculture, the reintroduction of native breeds and species. To value cooperativism.
  • To promote the generation of relevant data, tools and information for the development of strategies for mitigation and adaptation to climate change of rural activities. Increase sinks or carbon sequestration in agricultural soils.
  • To promote the implementation of renewable energies and new technologies in rural areas.
  • To increase the added value of the agri-food and forestry chains, promoting quality production and the closure of production cycles.
