This project aims to study the feasibility of implementing the Organic Fraction for Separate Collection in a community of Navarre.

The main objective of this project is to study the technical, economic and social feasibility of implementing the Organic Fraction for Separate Collection (FORS) in a community in the north and eastern axis of Navarre, to take advantage of the resources contained in waste through recycling. In this way, the need for discharge and environmental impacts are minimised, thus contributing to the fight against climate change.

The main areas of action of the initiative include the promotion of the separate collection of the organic fraction of urban waste and a commitment to systems that allow a high collection with low levels of improper waste. In addition, the project aims to promote domestic and community composting in a generalized way and obtain quality compost from an adequate treatment of the material collected.

Small-scale agricultural composting will also be encouraged when there are long transport distances to existing plants and the amount of non-stabilised organic waste that is deposited in landfill will be reduced.

The expected results are:

• Establish a separate quality collection of the organic fraction and optimize the cost of collection and treatment with the intention that it can be applied in other territories.
• Reducing the entry of bio-waste into landfill, which leads to a reduction in methane and the associated impact on global warming.
• To obtain quality compost that can replace the use of chemical fertilizers in agriculture and incorporation of organic carbon into the soil. This translates into an increase in agricultural productivity that aims to promote organic farming.
• Create green employment, both in collection and treatment.
• Raise awareness among the population and encourage lifestyle change.
