Food, climate change and agriculture

MITECO

Improving knowledge of the interactions between climate change and agriculture and promoting rural development is the aim of the initiative.

Climate change is the most serious and pressing environmental problem we face. The implications between climate change and agriculture are complex and deserve in-depth study.

These are implications that develop in two ways. On the one hand, the contribution of the agro-industrial system to the problem of climate change (dependence on oil, transport of food over long distances, deforestation, etc.) and, on the other, the influence that climate change has on agricultural ecosystems and that compromises the environmental and economic viability of crops.

The project seeks to contribute to improving knowledge of the interactions between climate change and agriculture and to promote rural development. In addition, it is intended to provide different audiences with tools to face the problems of agriculture in relation to climate change.

The project will be developed with research by the consulting firm MeteoClim Services on the influence of climate change on six specific crops. The aim of the project is to provide different audiences (farmers, political actors, technicians in the sector and the general public) with real solutions that allow them to influence the situation described.
