The project “Weaving seas of solidarity” aims to raise awareness among citizens about the values of marine biodiversity.
The project “Weaving seas of solidarity”, launched by the Association of Solidarity Work of the IAIA within the framework of the 2015 call for grants, aims to raise awareness among citizens about the values of marine biodiversity through solidarity work.
For monthsThey will be knitted in a center for the elderly and with the help of young marine animals and blue squares of wool. These squares will then be joined together to form a few ocean-blankets that will be exhibited on the occasion of World Oceans Day, on June 8, at the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment, in Madrid, and at the Oceanographic of the City of Arts and Sciences, in Valencia.
After the celebration, the ocean-blankets will be dismantled and from them blankets will be made for people without resources and for refugee centers. The marine animals that are woven within this initiative will be donated to institutions for educational purposes.
For its development, the project involves several groups, mainly the elderly, young people and the population without resources. It is an intervention with a marked participatory and supportive character, in order to raise awareness of the richness of marine biodiversity.
