This project aims to find out the causes of the disappearance of bees in a context of global change.
The project “Impacts, vulnerability and adaptation to climate change in Mediterranean aquaculture”, launched by the University of Vic, aims to find out the causes of the disappearance of bees in a context of global change in the Mediterranean area. Another objective is to delve into the strategies developed by beekeepers to help stop this process through transdisciplinary research methodologies.
The project will be developed in the Mediterranean strip, in the communities of Catalonia, the Valencian Community and Andalusia, given that the Mediterranean basin is one of the areas most impacted by climate change at the European level and it is an area of high beekeeping production.
The initiative aims to provide scientific evidence of the causes of bee mortality and disappearance in the Mediterranean, as well as possible corrective measures, and to learn about the adaptation strategies developed by the beekeeping sector. On the other hand, it seeks to involve the sector in the different phases of the project and to value its activity so that it reduces its abandonment.
To this end, the activities that will be launched are:
- Literature review
- Interviews with beekeepers’ groups
- Focus group
- Evaluation
- Diffusion
