Conservation and enhancement of mature forests or forests with notable elements of maturity in Catalonia.

The project “Forests that heal. Configuration and potential implementation of 30 therapeutic forest itineraries in mature forests of Catalonia” seeks the conservation and enhancement of the last mature forests or forests with notable elements of maturity in Catalonia, as biodiversity sanctuaries, and providers of a large number of environmental services.

To this end, Fundación Natura seeks to generate a new health and well-being service for people based on the therapeutic potential of mature forests or those with elements of maturity. At the same time, it is intended to structure the agents of the territory for the organization of a new offer linked to the so-called therapeutic forests at the local level.

Another objective is to expand and enrich the network of mature forests by incorporating those mature or pre-mature stands linked to the different therapeutic forest itineraries.

Activities to achieve these goals include:

  • Effective organisation of 20 potential therapeutic itineraries identified in the province of Girona.
  • Identification and (potential) organization of four therapeutic itineraries in the province of Barcelona, three in the province of Tarragona, and three in the province of Lleida.
  • Search for financial funds for the implementation in the field of the maximum number of therapeutic itineraries worked on
