This project aims to improve knowledge about the spatio-temporal dynamics of Nanozostera noltii (Hornem.) on the Cantabrian coast.
This project, developed by the Foundation Institute of Environmental Hydraulics of Cantabria, aims to improve knowledge about the spatio-temporal dynamics of Nanozostera noltii (Hornem.) on the Cantabrian coast.
In this way, the aim is to obtain the plant’s spectral signatures in situ with hyperspectral spectroradiometer and the mapping of the plant communities in the Cantabrian estuaries included in the Atlantic biogeographic region, having as its eastern limit the Bidasoa estuary (Basque Country) and the western limit the Vigo estuary (Galicia).
Likewise, the initiative aims to analyze the spatio-temporal changes in the distribution area of Nanozostera noltii in the period 1985-2015, based on data obtained through remote sensing techniques.
To carry out this initiative, a series of activities will be developed, among which the following stand out:
- In situ obtaining the spectral signatures of Nanozostera noltii with hyperspectral spectroradiometer.
- Mapping of plant communities in the Cantabrian estuaries included in the Atlantic biogeographic region.
- To analyze the spatio-temporal changes in the distribution area of Nanozostera noltii in the period 1985-2015 from the data obtained by remote sensing techniques.
- Dissemination of results, which will be published in scientific journals and incorporated into the subjects to be taught in the three official postgraduate courses of the Institute of Environmental Hydraulics (official postgraduate programme of the University of Cantabria). The results will also be hosted on a website with a mapping viewer.
