The Iberian Society of Ichthyology (SIBIC) develops the Spanish Fish Charter for the conservation of Iberian fish.
As a continuation of the project “First phase of the update of the National Inventory of Ichthyological Biodiversity and creation and implementation of the Spanish Fish Charter”, the Iberian Society of Ichthyology (SIBIC), with the support of the Biodiversity Foundation of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, Food and the Environment, has developed the “Consolidation of the Spanish Fish Chart: a tool for the dissemination, management and conservation of Iberian fish”.
The objective of this new proposal wasincrease the records of the National Biodiversity Inventory included in this database and improve the capacities of the Spanish Fish Charter (CPE), so that it is more useful for users, based on the active participation of civil society and the scientific community. To this end, applications have been developed that allow a more interactive use of CPE, through a website that is easy and attractive to use and explore.
Two applications for mobile devices have been developed, directly interrelated. The first allows the consultation of the CPE from a mobile device, so that general information on the species can be consulted, as well as specific information on river sections and places. In addition, in order to offer a service to the citizen, and specifically to fishermen and environmental agents as the main users of the tool, an application has been developed for the early identification of invasive alien species or endangered species and that allows updated data to be included in the CPE. In addition to this, the user has the collaboration of experts for the identification of the fish that may be found, and the advice of the measures to be taken depending on their degree of threat or their condition as an exotic species.
The Spanish Fish Chart is currently the most complete and up-to-date source of information on the biology and distribution of freshwater fish found in Spanish waters.
