ANEFA has completed the project ‘Gravel Pits: Living Wetlands. Diagnosis, categorisation and improvement for the functionality of gravel pits as naturalised wetlands and ecological corridors in Parque Sureste de Madrid’ for the knowledge and, with it, improvement of the state and conservation of the ecosystems of the towns of Arganda del Rey, Ciempozuelos, Rivas-Vaciamadrid and surroundings.
The National Association of Aggregate Manufacturing Entrepreneurs (ANEFA) has completed the project ‘Gravel Pits: Living Wetlands. Diagnosis, categorisation and improvement for the functionality of gravel pits as naturalised wetlands and ecological corridors in Parque Sureste de Madrid’. This initiative has had the support of the Biodiversity Foundation of the Ministry for Ecological Transition within the framework of its 2017 call for grants.
The project has analysed the ecological conservation status of different wetlands (originating from gravel pits) that make up the Southeast Park of Madrid. Under the taking of samples in wetlands with different stages of recovery, the degree of ecological health of the lagoon waters has been verified; the existence of vegetation and the level of density of the plant formations of the ecosystems; and the diversity of faunal species, with special interest in birds, mammals and amphibians. Experimental actions have also been carried out for the recovery of fauna and flora through revegetation and actions to improve the habitat for birds, amphibians, bees and bats. Finally, the project has served to make the park known among the local population and promote restoration actions among companies in the sector.
