MITECO

The Dupont’s lark has been the subject of study by the Autonomous University of Madrid, in the project ‘Criteria for the management and conservation of the Spanish population of Duponti’s Lark (Chersophilus duponti)’. With the results, it has been possible to know its threat status, concluding the need to put conservation measures in place by the Public Administration for the maintenance of the bird.

The Autonomous University of Madrid has completed the project ‘Criteria for the management and conservation of the Spanish population of Duponti’s Lark (Chersophilus duponti)’. This initiative has had the support of the Biodiversity Foundation of the Ministry for Ecological Transition within the framework of its 2017 call for grants.

The objective has been to know the conservation status of the Dupont lark in Spain and to make available to the Public Administrations the necessary information for the development of regulations and the application of active conservation policies. Thanks to this, it has been possible to improve the knowledge and conservation of the Dupont’s lark, with the collaboration of public administrations and specialized groups for the review and updating of the situation of the species. Based on the information collected, analysis techniques were used to evaluate the connectivity and viability of populations, as well as distribution and trends. All the results obtained were used for the preparation of the White Paper on the species. The project’s findings highlight the worrying conservation status of the lark and the need to reassess its threat status.
