Toolkit for Climate Change Adaptation in Cities

MITECO

The project seeks to provide municipalities with the necessary information and tools to be able to develop their local strategies and actions for adaptation to climate change.

Forética has completed a project whose objective has been to equip municipalities with the necessary information and tools to be able to develop their local strategies and actions for adaptation to climate change. The initiative “Toolbox for adaptation to climate change in cities” has had the support of the Biodiversity Foundation of the Ministry for Ecological Transition, within the framework of its call for grants.

To this end, Forética has developed five useful and practical tools to address resilience to the climate crisis.

A report on risks and opportunities for adaptation to climate change has been prepared, which identifies the main challenges faced by cities, as well as the opportunities they generate in terms of innovation, according to the main sectors and ecological systems present in urban environments.

In order for municipalities to carry out effective planning and expand cross-cutting knowledge in environmental matters, not only in the area of the environment, a climate adaptation argument has been developed. In it, indications are established on how the different areas that play a fundamental role in climate change adaptation can be involved.

In order to guide and inspire cities in their approach to actions, a report has been prepared with success stories from national and international cities that are leaders in climate change adaptation issues. On the other hand, products or services offered by companies that improve the performance of local administrations in climate matters, especially adaptation, have been compiled.

The executive summary report of the different tools developed was presented at an event in Madrid (20/06/2019). The session served as a meeting point between city councils, companies and other sectors to discuss the key aspects for achieving the global goals in terms of urban sustainability and climate action and to understand the way in which adaptation is already being addressed by these different agents.
