Study of the Pyrenees as a bioregion to cooperate in adaptation to climate change

MITECO

The Pyrenees Working Community Consortium (CTP), with the support of the Biodiversity Foundation, has developed the project “OPCC2 (Development and execution in cooperation of the strategy of the Pyrenean Observatory of Climate Change)”.

OPCC2 is a territorial cooperation project on climate change in the Pyrenean bioregion, which consists of monitoring and understanding the phenomenon of climate change in the Pyrenees to help the territory adapt to its impacts.

The OPCC2 project has made it possible to give continuity to the strategy of the Pyrenean Climate Change Observatory, whose main objective is to improve the knowledge bases on the observed and predicted impacts of climate change, as well as on the vulnerability to climate challenges of the main biophysical and socio-economic sectors in the Pyrenees. Thanks to OPCC2, an information portal with an integrated Geoportal has been developed, a Report on Climate Change in the Pyrenees (in which more than 80 experts have participated), three participatory sectoral workshops on adaptation in different territories of the mountain range, an international colloquium on climate change in mountain areas (with more than 200 attendees) and a citizen science portal has been launched to collect observations related to climate change. impact of climate change on the flora of the high mountains and on the main lakes and peatlands of the Pyrenees.
