Identification of transport infrastructures exposed to climate change

MITECO

One of the few references in terms of adaptation of transport infrastructures to climate change is the analysis carried out in 2013 through the “Working Group for the analysis of the climate change adaptation needs of the transport infrastructure backbone network in Spain“, a reference initiative in the third PNACC Work Programme.

This analysis, although it identifies the main expected impacts and proposes various adaptation measures, does not identify which sections of the network are potentially most exposed to the effects of climate change.

Taking the results of this analysis as a starting point, the Center for Studies and Experimentation of Public Works (CEDEX),with the support of the Biodiversity Foundation, launched the project “Identification of the sections of the Spanish backbone network of transport infrastructures potentially most exposed to the effects of climate change”, through which those sections of the State Road Network and the General Interest Railway Network have been identified to which priority attention should be paid due to their vulnerability to current climate variability and its possible evolution as a result of climate change.
