The project aims to communicate more and better the importance of cork forest certification as an opportunity and positioning in the new market demands of the sustainable economy compared to other materials.
The aim is to promote environmental awareness and the creation of confidence in the green economy market of the cork sector business, from the forester or owner to the final producer and consumer, using the sustainability approaches promoted by forest certification as a vehicle for cohesion.
The recipients are all professionals linked to cork, both foresters and forest owners and workers who safeguard the sustainability of cork oak forests from the origin, the wine industry, representatives of crafts and the textile and footwear industry and tourism professionals.
The results achieved with the project are expected to be:
- Revitalization of the Mediterranean cork oak forest through sustainable forest management and the surrounding rural areas.
- Enhancement of certified cork as a natural product from the sustainable cork oak forest and as a high-end product in international markets.
- Diversification and improvement of the economic environment, promoting the creation of companies, adapted to environmental regulations.
- Modernisation of the sector based on eco-innovation and sustainability and, therefore, improvement of its competitiveness.
- Professionalization of the sector and better access to the labor market with job creation.
- Responsibility and involvement on the part of cork companies with forest sustainability, with qualified human capital and competences in environmental issues.
