The objective of this project is to improve sustainability in the management of hake fisheries in the northwestern Cantabrian fishing ground (Galicia area).

The objective of this project is to improve sustainability in the management of hake fisheries in the northwestern Cantabrian fishing ground (Galicia area).

To this end, the sustainability indices of the fishing fleet dedicated to the hake fishery of the Cantabrian fishing ground will be obtained in all its dimensions (institutional, social, economic and environmental).

The resulting sustainability indices will constitute a useful, objective and innovative tool, both for typifying and measuring, as well as for diagnosing these fisheries and the associated production systems.

The aim is to improve the sustainability of the fishing fleet of Galicia (national fishing ground) focused on hake in its institutional, social, economic and environmental dimensions. As a specific objective, the aim is to obtain the sustainability indices of the Galician fishing fleet aimed at hake in these four dimensions.

Within the framework of the project, a series of activities will be developed:

1. Consensus selection of the sustainability indicators to be measured.
2. Definition of the questionnaire model to be carried out for each production system.
3. Compilation of preliminary statistical data, which limit the scope of the project.
4. Planning of fieldwork.
5. Identification of different representatives of the fishing sector and presentation of the project.
6. Development of fieldwork, conducting interviews.
7. Statistical analysis of the results and obtaining indicators.
8. Comparative analysis of the sustainability indices for the fisheries production systems analyzed.
9. Presentation and discussion of the results with the General Secretariat of Fisheries of the Ministry of Agriculture.
10. Drafting of conclusions and recommendations for the sustainable management of fisheries production systems.
