GANAECO’s main objective is to contribute to improving the quality of life, at an environmental and social level, and to the empowerment of the rural population, through greater knowledge and use of its own resources.
This will be achieved, on the one hand, by adding value to agricultural production by incorporating animals and marketing them as an organic product and, on the other, by preserving animal genetic biodiversity adapted to the territory and with the proper management of the territory as a form of biodiversity conservation and fire prevention.
Empowerment is achieved through the rescue and revaluation of local traditional knowledge and organic operators, as well as through the exchange of experiences between operators and employees related to organic farming, in accordance with the principles of the organic processing and processing method, mentioned in EU regulation 834/2007 and its implementing rules Reg EU 889/2008.
To achieve this main objective, the following specific objectives are established:
- To disseminate the benefits of organic livestock farming, techniques and management methods.
- Train and advise operators in the sector on conversion, based on a process of dialogue that incorporates the knowledge acquired.
- To analyse the main technical and potential obstacles to the development of the sector and to propose proposals for their improvement.
The project aims to achieve its objectives through motivation, advice and training actions in organic livestock farming for a year, in a series of autonomous communities.
The recipients are:
- Owners, workers of organic farms and farms and processors of organic animal and vegetable agribusiness.
- Owners, workers of agricultural farms and conventional agro-industries of animal origin.
- Technicians, veterinarians, agricultural advisors, professional experts and rural development agents.
Thanks to this initiative, 280 recipients will be trained, although the project will reach 1,670 workers. In addition, it will achieve the conversion of 150 animal farms to organic and the local empowerment of 200 agricultural and livestock operators, who participate in training activities and in the application of some of the techniques learned in their plot or farm – in 15% of the cases.
