(R9)Alimenta – The Rs of food losses and waste for the green economy

Empleaverde program

The aim of the programme is to provide skills and knowledge to workers in the agri-food sector, social organisations and public administration about their role in achieving more sustainable food systems. Specifically, to train them in the problem of food losses and waste and how to reduce them throughout the agri-food chain.

DESCRIPTION

The agri-food system plays a major role in the climate crisis. Food losses and waste (FLW) generated throughout the agri-food chain are one of the factors that contribute to its social and environmental impact. In turn, 26% of Spaniards live in poverty or social exclusion, which generates a moral and ethical debate. It is clear that trained workers are needed who are clear about their role in achieving more sustainable agri-food systems.

(R9)Alimenta is an innovative resource for improving labour skills in the green economy and sustainable food systems, through free training and advice actions for workers in Murcia and Andalusia.

The project aims to train 36 workers from Andalusia and Murcia who have an idea or challenge in mind to improve the sustainability of the food system from their jobs. To this end, a 20-hour online training is proposed, which trains in the creation and implementation of green improvement strategies based on the prevention of food losses and waste. In addition to the acquisition of knowledge on regulations, strategies and financing options related to this problem.

Likewise, the training is complemented by individual advice of 6 hours. This aims to accompany the design and implementation of FLW prevention actions in the agri-food sector, both at the level of companies, public administration and social entities.
