The RE-MAR project has carried out the following actions:
Marine waste collection: For the collection of marine waste, two collection outings were organized with fishermen and shellfish gatherers in which the Fishermen’s Guild of Rianxo and A Illa de Arousa have participated. People with intellectual disabilities (RE-MAR trainers) acted as guides and leaders of the activity. Likewise, two other beach clean-ups were organized with diving associations, in which the companies Portosub and Náutica Medusa have participated. In both actions, a total of 154.10 kg of waste was collected. The total number of participants in the collections was 71 people, of which 37 were women. In addition, a diving baptism adapted to people with disabilities was carried out.
Mobile App Development: A mobile app was developed in iOS and Android versions, which was downloaded by a total of 57 users, of which 38 are women.
Greenships training and trainer of trainers: 20 people received training on Greenships, focused on the problem of marine litter and the relationship between the fishing and shellfish sector, in the fishermen’s guilds of A Illa de Arousa and Rianxo. In addition, eight other people with intellectual disabilities participated in the presence of trainer of trainers course at the headquarters of the Amicos Association, taught by the company Equilátero Desenvolvemento Sostible Consultores.
Creation of the participatory seal of guarantee “Buque Azul”: four participatory sessions were planned together with the fishermen’s guilds for the preparation of the Guide to Good Practices and the definition of the recognition conditions for obtaining the Buque Azul Seal. In addition, 21 vessels were registered for the Blue Ship Seal audit. After these meetings, a Guide to Good Practices and a Waste Management Plan have been drawn up.
Events were designed to disseminate the Buque Azul seal in the supply squares of the four in which the Fishermen’s Guilds participating in the project are located in towns (Cabo de Cruz, Rianxo, Aguiño and A Illa de Arousa), with almost 200 indirect beneficiaries of this action.
Awareness-raising actions: six schools were contacted and finally three workshops were held with 75 schoolchildren in total. For the workshops, “O xogo do Lixo Mariño” was created, a dynamic game similar to the traditional game of the Goose, but which revolves around marine debris, which had the participation of 75 students. In addition, three garbage collection outings were held with schools, which added up to a total of 255 students participating in the cleanups and 561.76 kg of garbage removed and two workshops were held in educational centers, with 37 students participating. As part of the educational activities, the game “O xogo do lixo mariño” was created, also in a digital version.
Creation of the “Re-Mar Virtual Campus”: The training on the prevention of waste, hydrocarbons and biological pollution in the marine environment had a virtual campus in which 23 people participated. In addition, three tutorials were generated for the elaboration of small works of crafts with waste and six topics related to the marine environment with didactic material aimed at schoolchildren.
Finally, a webinar was organized to disseminate the results of the project.
