The objective of the project is to raise awareness in society and the fish retail sector about the importance of the protection and recovery of marine biodiversity, which will be the main axis of the project, but also about the limitation of the impact of fishing on the marine environment or the conservation of biological resources and the collaboration of the sector.
Specific objectives of the project:
This project aims to raise awareness of the importance of the protection and recovery of marine biodiversity, promote the conservation and use of biological resources, evaluate the viability of exploitation initiatives related to marine species recovery centers, enhance the value of fishery and aquaculture products and links in the chain with environmental characteristics or responsible production, and the general dissemination of the project so that it reaches the largest number of people and entities in the fishing chain to whom it can serve as inspiration.

The main objectives of the FISHMONGERS 4 SEALIFE project were to improve the protection of biodiversity, to disseminate the importance of maintaining biodiversity, to make better use of resources, to generate a way of collaboration between the fishing chain and centres dedicated to the recovery of marine animals and to add value to fishery products. through environmental projects.
To achieve these objectives, various activities have been carried out. Among them, a pilot experience has been carried out that has consisted of the donation by traditional fishmongers of fishery products in good condition and that for market reasons are not marketed. These products have been sent to the project partner, the CRAM Foundation, a marine biodiversity recovery centre. Through 2 shipments, a total of 100 kg of donated product has been sent, thus verifying the viability of sending products from traditional fishmongers to marine biodiversity recovery centers.
Another result of the project has been the preparation of a document that analyzes in depth all the information related to this type of donation. This document collects logistical information, obtained largely through the pilot experience, food safety, traceability, among others. Through this document, which is called “Feasibility study of the donation and shipment of fishery products to marine animal recovery centers in Spain”, the following conclusions have been obtained:
