We are facing a climate crisis, which threatens ecosystems, compromising not only the conservation of biodiversity, but also the well-being and future of the human population. Faced with this situation, the Government has launched plans and initiatives to promote the ecological transition towards a green, sustainable, decarbonised and resilient economy. Within the framework of the ecological transition, the labour market will have to respond with the creation of new jobs, also taking into account the gender perspective and attention to particularly disadvantaged groups, also giving special importance to professional training processes, since training deficits are one of the main bottlenecks in sectors closely related to the ecological transition.

It is important to emphasise the concept of “ecological transition that leaves no one behind” in the European Green Deal; The promotion of employment and training is one of the best tools for reducing inequalities and promoting the social integration of young people, people with disabilities and, in general, people at risk of exclusion.

The project “Training in agriculture, food industry and sustainability for young people in exclusion and workers” pursues a double objective. On the one hand, to train and increase the employability of 52 people at risk of exclusion, of which 36 are young people aged 16 to 24 (mostly young people with special educational needs) and 16 are people with intellectual disabilities or mental disorders, through professional training in aspects of sustainability in the food industry, sustainable agriculture and livestock. On the other hand, to promote the professional retraining
of 36 workers at La Fageda through the acquisition of skills related to sustainable waste management and the decarbonisation of the different lines of business at La Fageda.

In this way, we seek to promote the ecological transition through the improvement of the skills of the professional staff of La Fageda and at the same time we improve the employability of young people at risk of exclusion, training them so that they can access growing market niches such as those related to the green economy. In total, the project will train 88 net participants, including unemployed and working people

NOIMA, in Greek means meaning, and at La Fageda we believe that “the meaning of training is a training with meaning”, for this reason, NOIMA offers training that is aligned with professions of the future that promote the ecological transition and sustainable rural development.

Train young people in exclusion and workers to improve employability and professional retraining towards sustainable agriculture, livestock and the food industry and waste management and decarbonisation of production processes.

Within the framework of the project, 2 training itineraries will be carried out:

(i) Sustainable agriculture, livestock and food industry and

(ii) waste management, decarbonisation and sustainability of production processes.

In addition, transversal content will be offered in digitalization, occupational risks and soft skills. The two central training itineraries are included among the main sources of employment for the ecological transition and are considered to have a very high potential employability in the region of La Garrotxa.

It should also be noted that in order for project participants to maintain and consolidate training, we offer personalised support and guidance throughout the process, especially in the case of unemployed young people at risk of social exclusion who will be offered guidance for job search and opportunities to put into practice the learning acquired in real environments.

– Itinerary 1. Agriculture, livestock and sustainable food industry: Itinerary framed in the “BIO5 AXIS: Sustainable agricultural holdings (agriculture, livestock, beekeeping)” of the report by the Biodiversity Foundation and the Spanish Office for Climate Change “Employment and ecological transition”, which estimates a potential employment for Spain of 16,300 jobs, all of them in rural areas. Within this itinerary, the project will offer the following training: Training in Sustainable Agriculture.

– Auxiliary Operations on Agricultural and Livestock Farms Training in Sustainable Agriculture

– Irrigation and sustainable application of phytosanitary products and fertilizers Training in sustainable food industry

– Auxiliary processing operations Training in sustainable food industry

– Auxiliary processing operations in the dairy industry.

As detailed in the descriptions of the training actions, Pathway 1 will provide basic training in
agriculture, livestock and the food industry and will delve into key topics such as regenerative agriculture or agroecology, extensive livestock farming, minimum fertilisation and biological fertilisers and the consequences of pollution from poor agricultural practices (e.g. greenhouse gas emissions, contamination of aquifers, loss of biodiversity, etc.). To carry out this training, with meaning, in a real environment and thus enhancing the experiential employment programs, La Fageda makes available our dairy factory and our cow farm, as well as all the necessary facilities.

– Itinerary 2. Waste management, decarbonisation and sustainability of production processes. Itinerary framed in Axis CC7 “Circular economy/Prevention, management and transformation of waste” of the report of the Biodiversity Foundation and the Spanish Office for Climate Change “Employment and ecological transition”, which estimates a job creation of around 14,400 jobs in Spain. The transition to a more circular economy is a basic aspect for the sustainability of all economic sectors, but it is particularly important in the agri-food sector. The management of waste from the livestock/agricultural industry requires an organisation of collection, treatment and recovery, where appropriate. Within this itinerary, the following training will be offered:

– Industrial decarbonisation applied to the processes of agricultural farms and the food industry.

-Environmental sustainability and green economy applied to agriculture, livestock and the food industry.

– Environmental sustainability and climate change management in cattle farms.

In parallel to the central training itineraries, the project will offer the transversal training necessary to improve the employability of unemployed participants and improve the professional performance of working participants. Within this transversal itinerary, the project will offer the following contents:

– Basic digital skills applied to key jobs in the green economy.

– Basic training in occupational risks applied to the sustainable food industry.

– Training in soft skills applied to the sustainable food industry: self-knowledge, teamwork, problem solving, communication and knowledge of the territory.

– Training in equality applied to the sustainable food industry: visibility of women farmers and ranchers, identification and deconstruction of gender stereotypes present in the sector, prevention of gender violence.

As a methodological value, we will promote practical learning based on projects, learning that allows greater success in employment and self-employment. We must not forget a fundamental actor such as the environment and natural potential. The Area of Natural Interest of the Alta Garrotxa, within the framework of the Natura 2000 Network, designated as a Special Protection Area for Birds and a Site of Community Importance, offers a very important asset for the progressive increase of sustainability in the exploitation of the resources offered by the rural world that the project wants to promote.
