€1.6 million for research projects in the National Parks Network

The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment will fund a total of 22 research projects in the National Parks Network.

Within the framework of the National R+D+i Plan, the MAGRAMA will allocate 1,592,408 euros to 22 research projects out of a total of 220 applications. Among the topics addressed, the projects range from the control of persistent organic pollutants, to the detection and monitoring of fire lines in forest areas. In this sense, studies will be carried out on the control of persistent organic pollutants, the detection and monitoring of fire lines in forest areas, the fragility or functioning of vegetation in certain areas or species.

The selected projects have been classified as “priority” by those responsible for the affected National Parks, and considered as “excellent” by the National Agency for Prospective Evaluation of the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness. Three-year research projects, developed by research teams from various Spanish public universities, CSIC institutes and public institutions such as the Geological and Mining Institute of Spain.

The Autonomous National Parks Agency has financed, in total, 183 research projects in its annual calls for research grants since 2002.
