The Biodiversity Foundation promotes environmental information through the Environmental Legislation Guide for Journalists, which has been published by the Association of Environmental Information Journalists (APIA) in collaboration with the Biodiversity Foundation.
This publication, which was presented today in Madrid by the director of the Biodiversity Foundation, Sonia Castañeda, accompanied by the president of APIA, Clara Navío, and the coordinator of the Guide, Ignacio F. Bayo, provides information professionals with an enjoyable and attractive consultation tool, which allows journalists to approach environmental issues with guarantees so that they can prepare their information with the utmost rigour.
During the presentation ceremony, the director of the Biodiversity Foundation, Sonia Castañeda, highlighted “the importance of this guide for all those journalists who are approaching environmental information for the first time as a rigorous resource to deal with this journalistic issue with guarantee. But it is also a useful tool for the specialized professional in the event of any doubt that may arise when preparing information.”
The director of the Biodiversity Foundation recalled that “talking about biodiversity, endangered species, water, climate change, waste and sustainability is no longer something exceptional but essential, so it is necessary to do it rigorously, taking care of the message and being respectful of the language”.
“Knowing how to prepare and disseminate environmental information in a rigorous way is one of the keys to making society understand the importance of the environment and this can only be achieved with a greater specialization of the journalist in these issues,” added Sonia Castañeda.
The work, coordinated and developed by environmental journalists with a long professional career, covers major thematic areas around which national and EU legislation and regulations on environmental matters are constituted. Biodiversity, waste pollution, land management, natural resources, energy and transport and climate change are some of the topics addressed in this publication in a simple and attractive way.
The Guide to Environmental Legislation for Journalists is available in digital format on APIA’s website. This publication has the support of the Biodiversity Foundation, within the framework of the 2012 call for grants on a competitive basis for the implementation of activities in the field of biodiversity, climate change and sustainable development.
