Re-acquisition of skills for CO2 capture through carbon farming in Asturias (RECAP-CO2)

Empleaverde+ program

The RECAP-CO2 project aims to promote training in carbon agriculture among professionals in the agricultural and livestock sector in Asturias, as a way to mitigate climate change, improve the sustainability of the rural environment and promote economic diversification.

Through a specialised training programme for technical staff of cooperatives and agricultural entities, and subsequent training and advice to producers, regenerative agricultural and livestock practices will be promoted that increase the capacity to capture CO₂ in soils and vegetation.

The project also includes social innovation actions, communities of practice and training in equality and soft skills, seeking a positive impact on agricultural income, climate adaptation, generational renewal and sustainable development of Asturian rural areas.

The general objective of the project is to develop green jobs in the Asturian agricultural sector through training and advice on carbon agriculture, improving the environmental and economic sustainability of agricultural holdings and responding to the needs of European society.

As specific objectives, we pursue:

  1. Train technical staff from agricultural cooperatives and rural entities in carbon farming and regenerative farming practices, adapting the training to their work reality.
  2. To train and advise farmers and ranchers interested in applying carbon farming techniques on their farms, promoting more sustainable and resilient production.
  3. To design and implement a social innovation action, which allows identifying strategies to facilitate the adoption of carbon farming in the real socio-economic context of the Asturian rural environment.
  4. Foster communities of practice as spaces for meeting and collaborative learning for the exchange of knowledge, tools and experiences around carbon agriculture.
  5. To promote equal opportunities and the development of soft skills among participants in the agricultural sector, facilitating generational renewal and the empowerment of women and young people in rural areas.
  6. Prepare the agricultural and livestock sector for the future European framework for the certification of carbon removals and carbon credits, generating new opportunities for diversification and increasing agricultural income.
  7. To contribute to the improvement of the image of the agricultural sector, making visible its active role in the fight against climate change and its contribution to food security and sovereignty.
