On September 26, a citizen science workshop will take place in l’Estartit (Girona) to train and raise awareness about the marine areas of the Natura 2000 Network in the Spanish Mediterranean. It is part of the development of a citizen science campaign that includes a total of 15 activities in the autonomous communities of Andalusia, the Region of Murcia, the Valencian Community, Catalonia and the Balearic Islands.
The Biodiversity Foundation of the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITECO), in coordination with the Directorate-General for Biodiversity, Forests and Desertification and the autonomous communities involved, is responsible for these actions within the framework of the European project LIFE A-MAR, Knowing and loving the marine areas of the Natura 2000 Network to protect them, of which she is a member. The project is coordinated by the Italian Federation of Parks and Nature Reserves (Federparchi) and is being developed in parallel in Italy and Spain. It is supported by the LIFE Program of the European Union.
The citizen science workshops combine a theoretical part with practical experiences to train citizens in the observation, collection and recording of data on marine biodiversity using digital tools and applications. All of them are free.
The theoretical contents are aimed at raising awareness of the LIFE A-MAR Natura2000 project and the fundamentals of citizen science. The active part of the workshops include whale watching from the boat, snorkeling and walking routes for flora and fauna observation. All this adapted to the particularities of each protected area.
To attend the workshop in l’Estartit (Girona) it is necessary to register in advance.
