In this episode we talk to Ana María Hernández Salgar, who has been at the helm of the Intergovernmental Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) in recent years. She was the first woman in history to hold this position. Colombian by birth and Canadian by adoption, she is based in Montreal, she is an expert in biodiversity, with special attention to environmental law, international negotiations and the science-policy interface. In her more than 20 years of experience, she has worked at the Alexander von Humboldt Institute, the Colombian Ministry of the Environment, the NaturaCert Foundation and has been a professor at the Universidad del Rosario and the Universidad Javeriana in Colombia. He has participated extensively in the work of the Convention on Biological Diversity, has been a member of the Bureaux of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification and Drought (UNCCD), the Protocol on Specially Protected Areas and Wild Flora and Fauna of the Cartagena Convention and IPBES.
