Circular Economy Project to increase the level of environmental protection of Texfiltra, S.L.

PRTR Call for Proposals Project

The results that the project aims to achieve are focused on:

  • Reduction of raw material used in the process (spinning): an impact on the reduction in consumption of 5,965 kg of yarn annually is expected. From 350,100 kg to 344,135 kg of yarn.
  • Reduction of waste generated in the process: They currently produce 480,000 m per year, of which 10,400 m (8,125 kg) becomes waste. They aim to reduce this amount to 2,160 m (1,687 kg), which is a reduction of 70% (8,240 m). In global data, it will be possible to reduce the current 2.17% of waste produced to 0.45%.
  • Between the warp phase to weaving and the weaving phase to finishing, 7,200 m of waste (5,625 kg – 1.5% of the total produced) are generated. With the new process, waste will be reduced to 2,160 m, which represents 0.45% of the total produced.
  • For the quality control of your products (filter fabrics), a piece of the article is cut out to do the analysis in the laboratory and validate if it is correct. This already directly implies the loss of 2 m of fabric for each piece that is manufactured. They manufacture a total of 3,800 pieces in the year, taking into account that 1600 of these go through this process, resulting in a loss of 3,200 linear meters of fabric that goes to waste (2,500 Kg) and that with the realization of the project will be saved annually.

It is a company that produces and markets technical fabrics, mainly intended for the filtration sector. The objective of the project is focused on improving the industrial process to achieve a reduction in waste generation and improved efficiency in the use of virgin raw materials. The project contemplates a structured set of investments in advanced technology equipment that incorporates digitalization in the weaving, finishing and quality control phases, phases in which a higher percentage of product is lost during manufacturing. They will invest in three digital looms, an in-line permeabilimeter system and digital inspection equipment. Through the redesign of the process based on circular economy criteria, the use of digital technology that provides data traceability within the process to achieve an increase in environmental protection and the monitoring of results and impacts of the project, to be applied to future company policies focused on sustainability, error detection will be achieved. working with more specific specifications and carrying out more precise controls, with a provision of data connection between the different phases and total traceability of the product during its manufacture. Digital looms are more efficient, with more specific controls, which will guarantee a reduction in defects detected in the weaving, which are classified as a batch of non-conforming fabric, being discarded and becoming waste.
