Circular economy strategy to reduce wool fibre losses generated in the carding process of the Textil Olius production plant

PRTR Call for Proposals Project

The entity Textil Olius S.A. is a medium-sized company that is dedicated to the manufacture of fabrics, ready-made articles and textile finishes, whose main product is felt made through wool fibers. With this project, the aim is to reduce the consumption of virgin fibre and the generation of losses associated with two current cards, replacing them with equipment that adapts to the production process and allows a significant reduction in these losses. The main investment is a new carding line.

The objective of the project is to reduce waste in the production process by replacing two current carding equipment that generates a large amount of fiber losses, with equipment that will integrate an innovative design and advanced technology. This will reduce the amount of waste generated in the carding stage by 35%. Equivalently, the amount of waste sent to landfills or incinerators will be reduced, which will lead to an improvement in the environmental footprint of between 0.25 and 0.45%. In addition to minimizing the fall of fiber, the new equipment will reduce the amount of virgin raw materials needed to generate the same amount of product, around 8%. In addition, the new technical characteristics of the equipment will facilitate the introduction of shorter fibres, being able to use recycled fibre from the shredding of garments in the future.
