New circular system for the manufacture of yarns and fabrics from post-consumer recycled fibres FABRETEX

PRTR Call for Proposals Project

The project is presented in a group by Textil Santanderina, Fibresa and The Post Fiber. The project aims to implement a technological solution for the reduction of the use of virgin raw materials in the manufacturing and production process of yarns and fabrics as a result of the supply of recycled raw material from textile waste. The Post Fiber, located in Barcelona, will be the company in charge of preparing the fibre from post-consumer textile material, eliminating the improper ones from the fabrics and subsequently processing the textiles, shredding them with advanced technologies to preserve the maximum fibre length. This raw material will be used in the next link in the chain by Fibresa in Avià (Barcelona) and Textil Santanderina in Cabezón de la Sal (Cantabria) who will process the recycled fibre, together with virgin material to be able to make their yarns with a high content of recycled fibre. In this way, quality yarns will be obtained from mixtures of virgin and recycled raw material.

The main objective of the project is to reduce the use of virgin materials in the production of yarns and fabrics. Specifically, it is expected to reduce the amount of virgin material by combining two actions: the incorporation of recycled materials in the composition of yarns and fabrics from treated post-consumer textile material and the reduction of waste and scraps during the production process. Among the expected results is the incorporation of secondary raw materials by 30% in the composition of yarns and fabrics and the reduction of 40% in textile waste generated by using a new inspection and cutting machine that will reduce waste.
