This project aims at the same time to recycle third-party waste and reduce the consumption of virgin raw material, by acquiring discarded jute sacks and woolen garments, which would otherwise be sent to landfills, and turning them into raw material for the production of high-quality and GRS-certified yarn. The introduction of recycled fibres from post-consumer garments into the process will allow the company to reduce the use of virgin wool, which will also lead to a reduction in emissions, water consumption and the use of pesticides linked to the manufacturing process of natural fibres. On the other hand, the jute fibers from discarded coffee and cocoa bags will be conditioned. The final material is intended to be biodegradable yarns, which means that garments made from yarn made from recycled materials will then have low-energy recycling. The project will allow a 30% substitution of virgin raw material for secondary raw material, 90% recovery of products and a 40% reduction of virgin wool in the production process, with a reduction of 16 tons of virgin wool to manufacture the same amount of product.
