Presentation of the LIFE Wetlands project

Coinciding with World Wetlands Day, we present the LIFE WETLANDS project, the largest nature conservation and restoration project in Europe.

This ambitious initiative will carry out more than 280 restoration actions in wetlands, one of the most important ecosystems for the health of the planet, in 107 Natura 2000 Network sites in the 17 Autonomous Communities. This is an approximate total of 21,800 hectares that, added to those that will be restored with complementary funds, amount to more than 26,100 hectares, 130% of the restoration objective set out in the Strategic Plan for Wetlands 2030.

Led by the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITECO), it has a partnership of 24 partners, represented by four units of the ministry itself, 12 Autonomous Communities, two provincial councils, four companies and public foundations, as well as four environmental NGOs.
