Bird Tracking Data Ecosystem – CORYS

MITECO

  • The project aims to create an ecosystem of bird monitoring data that allows both raw and standardized data to be made available to the public and easily applied to the conservation of the marine environment.
  • To this end, it proposes the design and development of an ecosystem of bird tracking data, which will generate seabird abundance files from the creation of an automatic sound identifier and exportable files with geolocations.

The general objective is to create a CORY’s Bird Monitoring Data Ecosystem (EDSA-CORYS), which will make both raw and standardized bird data available to the public and that can be easily applied to the conservation of the marine environment, contributing to the Integrated Biodiversity Information System while providing information within the framework of plans, programs and strategies of the State.

It has the following specific objectives:

  • Making available to the public acoustic information on seabirds in the Canary Islands and methodologies for their analysis using free software.
  • Making publicly available information on seabird tracking in Spain to operational resolutions.
  • Design and development of a CORY’S Bird Tracking Data Ecosystem (EDSA).
  • Strengthening of the team’s technical capacities in the processing of bird monitoring data.
  • Standardisation and making available to the public the acoustic data of seabirds in the Canary Islands collected between 2015 and 2024.
  • Development of scripts for the analysis of acoustic files.
  • Remote monitoring data of seabirds in Spain.
  • Generation and provision of products derived from remote monitoring.
  • Design and development of EDSA-Acoustics and EDSA-Tracking.
  • Bibliographic and photographic archive organization and cataloguing.
  • Strengthening of the team’s technical capacities in the processing of bird data.
