ACTIVA VERDE. Planning, good practices and promotion of the agricultural bioeconomy for the strengthening of Galicia’s green infrastructure and adaptation to climate change.

FEDER

The project strengthens the Galician Strategy for Green Infrastructure and Ecological Connectivity and Restoration (EGIVCRE), improving the planning and management of agricultural uses from a productive and ecosystem services approach, through public participation and citizen science. To this end, it identifies priority areas to implement 5 demonstrative multifunctional agricultural systems with a focus on regenerative forestry and silvopastoral use, promotes productive activities and promotes short marketing channels. In addition, it is developing 3 pilot territories: a native olive grove (5–6 ha, 1,000 plants), regenerative beekeeping (200 hives) and an agricultural experimentation space for organic gardens on burned land. With all this, it is intended to achieve the improvement of 10,000 km2 of green infrastructure and the scaling up of the project to the entire green area of Galicia, through dissemination actions.

The project seeks to promote the bioeconomy, promoting the development, improvement and consolidation of green infrastructure, connectivity, the restoration of degraded ecosystems and multifunctional landscapes, with the aim of increasing biodiversity and its conservation, adaptation to climate change, prevention of forest fires and the fight against desertification, while generating opportunities and employment in rural areas and contributing to the fight against the challenge demographic.

  • To plan, promote and implement agricultural, livestock and forestry activities, with an agroecological and innovative approach, in the areas delimited by the Galician Green Infrastructure Strategy.
  • To contribute to the conservation, improvement and enhancement of green infrastructure through the creation of multifunctional agricultural landscapes.
  • Enhance ecosystem services, improve biodiversity, adapt to climate change and reduce fire risk.
  • Recovery and valorisation of abandoned, degraded or at risk of degradation agricultural systems, especially agricultural systems of high natural value.
  • To promote the generation of employment linked to agricultural activity and the establishment of population in rural areas.
  • Participatory and integrated planning of agroforestry uses and ecosystem services in green infrastructure.
  • Operational plan for the promotion of the bioeconomy in the Condado Paradanta region.
  • Promotion and creation of a multifunctional agroforestry system in the neighbourhood forest of Paraños (Covelo).
  • Operational plan for the promotion of the bioeconomy in Ribeira de Piquín.
  • Promotion and creation of multifunctional agroforestry systems in Ribeira de Piquín.
  • Creation of an agricultural space for experimentation for organic gardens on land affected by a forest fire.
  • Dissemination, training and scaling up of the project’s actions to the entire green infrastructure of Galicia.
  • Advice, coordination and technical and administrative management for the development of the project.
  • Improvement of the planning and management of agricultural uses in green infrastructure.
  • Creation of multifunctional agricultural systems through the recovery and promotion of traditional activities.
  • Enhancing biodiversity and ecosystem services in green infrastructure.
  • Adaptation to climate change, reduction of the risk of forest fires and regeneration of areas affected by fires with agricultural activity.
  • Social governance of the planning and management of agricultural activity in green infrastructure.
  • Activation of the agricultural bioeconomy and generation of linked employment that fixes population in rural areas.
  • Identification of priority areas of action for the implementation of multifunctional agricultural systems, the promotion of productive activities and the promotion of short marketing channels.
  • Establishment of 3 pilot territories, which will include the implementation of: an autochthonous olive grove (between 5 and 6 ha with 1,000 plants) combined with regenerative beekeeping use with black bees (200 hives); 5 demonstrative SAMs with two predominant orientations, one with regenerative forestry as the main axis (a biodiverse grove and a multifunctional cherry grove) and another with a focus on silvopastoral use (with Celtic porce, Galician horse and cachena cow); and an agricultural space for experimentation for an organic garden on land affected by a forest fire, aimed at entrepreneurs.
  • Development of a spatial decision support system for the implementation of multifunctional agricultural systems in green infrastructures (SADE-SAMIV).
  • Dissemination actions to the different areas of the green infrastructure of Galicia, development of a programme of demonstration visits, and practical manuals for the implementation and identification of sources of funding for this type of action.
