MITECO launches the COP31 Generation initiative to boost youth climate action at the next Climate Summit

  • The Generation COP31 initiative will select young people committed to climate action and with proposals that contribute to meeting the objectives of the Paris Agreement
  • Those selected will receive a training scholarship and will be able to be part of the Spanish team that will travel to Antalya (Turkey) on the occasion of the Climate Summit that will take place in November this year

The Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITECO) is launching the call for training grants to promote youth climate action at the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP31), which will be held in Antalya (Turkey) from 9 to 20 November 2026.

This new edition of Generación Clima seeks to facilitate the active participation of four young people, while promoting their practical training in the field of climate change.

Youth involvement has established itself as an essential element in the global response to climate change. Their ability to contribute innovative ideas, their commitment and their long-term vision are fundamental to the design and promotion of equitable, inclusive and lasting solutions.

TRAINING IN THE FIELD OF CLIMATE
CHANGEAfter the positive experience of the three previous editions and with the conviction that the new generations must strengthen their role as key actors in the main international forums on climate, the Spanish delegation is continuing this initiative, betting on strengthening intergenerational dialogue.

Young people between the ages of 18 and 29 will be able to apply and those selected will have the opportunity to participate in COP31 through a training grant with a maximum duration of four months, from September to December 2026.

During this time, the beneficiaries will be dedicated to training and participation activities coordinated by the Biodiversity Foundation in collaboration with the Spanish Office for Climate Change and the Spanish Youth Council.

The deadline for submitting proposals will end on June 8 and the complete conditions of participation and the proposal submission form can be found on the initiative’s website: https://generacioncop.fundacion-biodiversidad.es/
